Your Wish Is My Command…

When it comes to carpentry, I’m a bit of a Genie/Djinn. You’ll get what you wish for, so be careful with what you ask.

This customer needed a custom set to maximize happiness with a kitchen nook area. I hate the word “bespoke”, but that’s what we’re talking about here; one-of-a-kind items like the rich enjoy, but at affordable prices.

A 52-inch Wall By A 78-inch Window-Wall Floor Space Is Available

One simple constraint we decided to work with was the standard 48-inch wide cabinet-grade plywood sheet materials in stock at stores. With the planned hardwood edge banding it would only make the seating be 48.5-inches wide, so well within the 52-inch wide wall limitation. Time to plan…

At first, there was some desire for roll-out storage to hide below the seating; and Idea discovered on Pinterest. Later when thinking about the complexity of the design, the added cost of rolling parts, and the extra time and materials to do it, we came up with a plan of tip-up seating instead.

Custom Bench Seating For Nook

I like to design things that can be thrown off a building like the Emeco Chairs. This design has restaurant durability and an old-world perfect body angle design for the most comfortable long-term relaxed seating. Both dining and recreation like family card/board games are ideal from this platform. Angles and offsets were designed to never feel a bump on your toes or ankles as you interact with the furniture.

The customer’s convinced the plan is right, so it’s time to cut the wood. Use the photo browser below to see how it went…
