We all love our pets, but sometimes they can push us to our limits. This pretty face always decided to teeth on the windowsill instead of her toys. Now that she’s grown the homeowner was ready to reverse the damage.

A window’s Stool can be repaired in many different ways. Sometimes you tear out the whole piece in cases of wood rot, sometimes you resurface in ordinary wear, and sometimes you can just replace a part of it and maintain new-like structural integrity.

Before

The choice that worked best for this household was to trim back to healthy sill material and graft on a custom piece of pine with glue and trim brad nails.

After

This left the chewed sill further back still in distress, but we pre-sanded it and had a plan. The new nosing on the sill gave a laser straight edge to run the wood filler knife across in the front and the back was undamaged. After that, a bit of finish sanding was all that was needed to prep for paint.

In this particular case, the homeowner wanted to do the wood filler and paint to save some money. They were nice enough to send me a photo of their finished work. 😉
